About Me

Doctors are feeling overwhelmed more than ever before, with the amount of responsibilities that they are given today, in addition to those responsibilities that they already had from yesterday.

For this reason, my personal enjoyment comes from working closely with physicians to deeply understand their challenges and then collaborating to get them the results they need. As a result, clients often come back to me and tell me they’re feeling more satisfied in their roles.

As for me, I am a leadership coach for physicians (especially hospitalists, emergency medicine doctors and cardiologists) and clinical teams, a patient experience consultant, business strategist, writer, and public speaker.

In a prior role, I served as the senior director of quality for an inpatient specialist group in Maryland. There I helped physician groups and hospitals enhance quality measures, drive up patient experience (HCAHPS) scores and improve reimbursement via Value-Based Purchasing.

“Jim is driven by his concern for human values… I have witnessed how he gets his audience to strive for success. He diagnoses problems like a physician, then he helps you build sustainable solutions…Result? A healthy company.“

Mr. Thomas D. Gordon, retired CEO, Cedars-Sinai Medical Group

Before working for this hospitalist group, I worked closely with executive, physician and nursing teams at over 50 of the nation’s largest health systems to maximize their organizations’ performance. As Director of Leadership Development at The Advisory Board Company and at the Health Management Academy, I led management seminars to over 5,000 executives at over 200 hospitals and corporations nationwide to assist teams improve clinical quality, enhance patient and staff satisfaction, reduce costs, and increase revenue.

To supplement these experiences working with leaders in healthcare, I completed my ICF Coaching certification at Georgetown University.

Last but not least, a global curiosity about people and cultures has led me to many fun adventures in over 30 countries. As a result, I enjoy travel and have resided in New York, Paris, Munich, Nairobi, Phoenix, San Francisco and Dakar. These multicultural experiences definitely help when relating to many of the professionals with whom I work. My wife, daughter and I currently reside in Bethesda, MD.
